Akili Academy of New Orleans is a Kindergarten through 8th Grade open-enrollment, public charter school. Our purpose is simple and incredibly urgent: we exist to close the achievement gap for public school students in Orleans Parish.
Akili opened in August 2008 and currently serves scholars in Kindergarten through 5th Grade. We will add additional Kindergarten scholars each year until we have reached our full capacity as a K-8 school in 2015.
In 2011, Akili's 3rd Grade Scholars took the Louisiana iLeap assessment for the first time since the school's opening and impressed the New Orleans community by obtaining the highest scores in the Recovery School District (RSD). In 2012, 95% of Akili's 4th Graders passed the high-stakes LEAP, while their 3rd Grade counterparts took a cue from the year before and once again scored some of the highest grades in the RSD.
We're moving! After 5 years at our temporary campus in Gentilly, we will be moving into a brand new building at the historic William Frantz School at 3811 N. Galvez Street in time for the 2013/2014 school year.
